Golden City Guardians #5
Hate comes to town

June, 1985:
The team continues to improve their compound. There is a discussion about having a “hot line” for people to contact them. Currently only the police have a direct line to the team through radio contact with Pittsburgh Steel, and Ohm. They don’t fully commit, but they start investigating the possibility of 1-800-GC-GUARD.
While the money from the comic book deals hasn’t come rolling in yet, Master Juyo considers what to do with his new found income given he took a vow of poverty. Guess there’s going to be some extra donations flowing into the coffers of some of the local shelters. Gravik upgrades his choice of vodka. Pittsburgh Steel looks at other possible investments, or maybe some additional armor upgrades.
Near the end of the month, the team is contacted by Lt. Dawes, their liaison with the SAPD. He says the Chief and Mayor Martinez would like to meet the team. Well, part of the team. He says that the matter is a sensitive one and the Mayor and Chief would feel better if Ohm wasn’t present. Pittsburgh Steel agrees to meet at the normal location on the roof of the police parking ramp the next day.
The team minus Ohm arrive at the parking ramp and the Chief and Mayor are already there. They notice that despite who they are meeting, there is only a couple of security people present. In fact it looks like the 2 arrived in the same car. Very unusual.
Between the 2 City Officials, they explain that there is going to be a rally on the 30th put on by a Professor Marko Worth. The problem is that Worth is pushing hate as his subject, and he draws a lot of racist and militant groups. And worse, a super called the White Knight, who is a KKK reject. The Mayor and Chief would like the team to be on hand for a sort march and the rally to help keep the peace. PART won’t be present even though the White Knight is expected to show and normally they would be used to handle a super. They feel the team could handle this threat faster and with less possible collateral damage than PART. There will also be counter-protesters along the route and at the park.
The team agrees to help and take the next week to research Worth and the White Knight. they find info that paints Worth as a good speaker, but essentially a hate monger and borderline racist. the White Knight seems to be a bruiser, but with a force field of fire that damages people and the ability to do a fire blast. They check out the route and the park to decide the best strategy. Gravik also uses his underworld contacts to see if anyone is planning anything criminal against the march and/or rally, or against Worth himself, but doesn’t turn up anything. The team decides to have Gravik, Paragon and Master Juyo to walk the route with the marchers, keeping between them and any counter protesters along the street. Pittsburgh Steel would position himself halfway along the route to be very visible to both the rally members and any counter protesters.

June 30th, the day of the Hate is Freedom Rally.
The team arrives at the steps of the UCSA administration building (the starting point of the march) to coordinate with the police. There counter-protesters at the college and along the route. Just before it’s time for the rally, Worth arrives in a white limo followed by 2 white vans. He has a group of followers calling themselves the Worthy that support him. Worth has a brief conversation with the Chief, Mayor and the team then gathers his people for the march. He is met with boos and shouts from the crowd. As they march begins, about a dozen fully robed and hooded KKK members get out of some cars and join the back of the Worthy. The crowd really gets angry.
The march begins with 2 little old ladies holding a long banner with HATE = FREEDOM on it. Worth walks right behind the banner followed by the rest of the Worthy, then the KKK. He uses a bullhorn to shout at the crowd about the power of hate and to come to the rally to hear him out. The march gets about 1/4 of the way to the park when about a dozen neo-nazis and skinheads come out from between a couple of buildings, push their way past the counter-protesters, jump the barricades and join the march. The crowd really gets loud and upset then.
As the march nears Pittsburgh Steel’s position, moving quickly out of a coffee shop and into the street are 2 large black men in white t-shirts and another, thinner lack man dressed all in black. They stand in the middle of the street. The smaller man yells at Worth that he is called Deacon, San Angelo is his town and has no place for Worth. Worth moves forward to talk with Deacon, but doesn’t make any headway. As the talk, one of the KKK members comes forward and moves towards Deacon. Pittsburgh Steel sees that the KKK is wearing very large combat boots, the same that the White Knight wears. As he nears Deacon, The White Knight throws off the traditional robes and is in his stylized outfit. He confronts Deacon and Worth moves back with the Worthy. The 2 men exchange words, White Knight turns on his flames and tackles Deacon. While the 2 are on the ground, Deacon lets loose with a blast of some kind of force and blows White Knight off him. white Knight gets up and one of Deacon’s men helps him up,
Then it gets really interesting as Pittsburgh Steel fires a smoke canister into the street, and follows up with a gas grenade. He hopes to break up the fight before it gets out of hand. And then he moves into the smoke as he is unaffected by it. The 2 combatants take a couple of shots at each other, but then back off. Pittsburgh Steel goads White Knight into taking a swing at him just as the smoke clears and the people only see White Knight trying to hit Pittsburgh Steel.
While he was playing peace-maker up front, the crowd and the marchers started yeelling more and more at each other. At the back of the march, a woman from the counter-protesters gets ready to throw something at one of the neo-nazis. Master Juyo sees her, but feels she doesn’t have a real weapon and doesn’t intervene. The ripe tomato hits one of the skinheads square in the face. another skin head tries to charge at the woman, but one of the SAPD officers steps in and clotheslines the skinhead, tells them to get on tneir own side of the barricade, then tells the tomato-thrower to either leave, or get arrested. Gravik moves forward to see if he needs to help at the front against the White Knight.
With the smoke cleared, Worth tells the White Knight to stand down and get back in line, even though he told Gravik and Pittsburgh Steel that he doesn’t have any control over the Knight. the march. Deacon tells his people that their going to the park. The rest of the march goes without incident and reaches the park. The Worthy, KKK and skinheads move into a barricaded section of the park, where Worth takes to a stage with a podium. The counter-protesters move to the other side of the barricades. the team notes that Deacon and his 2 men are nearby on a small hill. Pittsburgh Steel positions himself in-between Deacon’s position and the White Knight’s position, near the stage area. Master Juyo positions himself near the edge of the barricades at the front of the area. Paragon and Gravik tale similar positions near the back. The police are aslos stationed around the area. Worth begins his speech in earnest.
He is a very good speaker, very persuasive and is able to make what he says sound reasonable and even sensible. Even though it is entirely about hate, and using that hate to get what you want, and the power of hate. He somehow makes it sound….. ok. But at the same time, portions of the crowd get angrier and angrier; the skin heads do their shouts of “White Power” and nazi salutes; even Gravik, Paragon and Pittsburgh Steel can feel the anger well up in them. People, situations, governments and “those in power” – all things that each of the team has had to deal with and suddenly these things are really getting to them. They’re getting angry like the crowd, they are feeling…hate. Only Master Juyo remains calm and continues to scan the crowd. He tells himself, the ones in the rally won’t make the move, it will be one of the protesters,
And then he sees the man in light jacket moving along the back of the protesters, moving closer to the stage. He moves to be closer to where the man ends his walk. Pittsburgh Steel sees it too, and despite his feelings, warns the team that something might be coming. The man draws a pistol, raises it and fires at Worth. Master Juyo steps in and takes the bullet meant for Worth, and then disarms the shooter, but busting the shooters face with his fist. All heck breaks out. The KKK and skinheads charge the crowd, the Worthy surround the stage ready to protect Worth, the crowd readies to fight the ralliers, except for a few that go after the cops.
And then the White Knight turns on the counter protesters and sends a wide blast of blue fame into them, dropping a few, their clothes on fire. Pittsburgh Steel and Gravik move on the Knight, Master Juyo gets the shooters gun and the begins taking down the charging KKKs. Paragon and the cops near him intercept the skinheads charging near them. Pittsburgh Steel drops a gas grenade to break up a large group of counter protesters, skin heads and KKKs. White Knight takes down a cop with his fire. Gravik puts up a force wall to keep a cop safe from being pummeled by a half-dozen counter protesters,
White Knight and Pittsburgh Steel trade some shots, with Pittsburgh Steel dishing out more than the White Knight gives back, and continues to goad the Knight into attacking him and leaving the crowd and police alone. A couple of big hits and the White Knight goes down. The rest of the ralliers are either scattered, unconscious or being put under arrest. That’s when Gravik sees Worth and Deacon talking to each other, but can’t get to them due to a skinhead with a gun shooting at him. Master Juyo sees it and uses a burst of speed to get to the 2.
Worth tells Master Juyo that there’s nothing he needs to worry about, this is just 2 rational, intelligent men coming to an understanding. Deacon says “It ain’t nothing of your concern”. Deacon then turns and heads off with his men. Worth gathers the Worth and the police move in to arrest everyone else. A Gaines collar is on hand to lock up the White Knight. Statements are taken of everyone. Worth is invited to give his statement downtown.
Afterwards the team talks and compares notes and think that no matter how much sense Worth may have been making, the anger that they felt themselves and the reactions of the crowd didn’t match. And the questioned the shooters true motives. With Jeremy’s help, they get a video of Worth’s speech. None of them feel the anger rise up like they did at the park. And they see that the crowd seems to get angrier – both the rally people and the counter protesters – after Worth talks at them directly and looks at them. they even see when he talked and looked at each of the team and recognized that was when the anger started to build. Jeremy and Pittsburgh Steel use a new internet service called Yodel to search the internet for mental persuasion information and turn up a lot of information put out by a group called the Horizon Institute.
It turns out that the Horizon Institute is located near San Angelo. Pittsburgh Steel calls them to see if they could l come out and talk. The director of the Institute, Mr. Boyle, agrees and arranges a meeting. Pittsburgh Steel, Master Juyo and Gravik go to meet with the director, but Gravik decides to stay in the car, suddenly becoming worried about an organization that seems to be tracking and cataloging supers. Boyle meets the duo in the parking lot to allow for Pittsburgh Steels size. They discuss the changes in the crowds behavior at the rally at length. Boyle lets them now is own staff has reviewed the tape of the rally and no one seemed to get overly angry during it and there did not appear to be any effects happening on screen. He says that most people who are mentally manipulated recognize the fact afterward, and can usually identify who did the manipulation. He did say that it would be possible for a strong enough mentalist to make the person not realize that they have been manipulated. The former hero Mind Master was a powerful enough mentalist to such. In fact there is a thought that he is active as a vigilante mentally manipulating some criminals into surrendering and thinking that it was their own idea. With that in mind, it might be possible that Worth is strong enough to conceal his effects from his victims. Master Juyo also reveals his true background during the discussion as he was not affected by anything that Worth may have been doing, and if Boyle might find that useful. Nothing like someone saying that they are 1/2 vampire 1/2 werewolf to turn a few heads!
After that discussion, Bolye broaches the subject of the Institutes goals of cataloging supers and providing analysis of powers and such. Would the duo be willing to offer some DNA for their records and research? Pittsburgh Steel agrees, but tells Boyle that he knows they won’t find anything odd in his DNA. Boyle says Pittsburgh Steel might be surprised. Not only does Master Juyo offer up his DNA, but says he’s willing to work with the Institute with anything that might be related to his ….ethnicity??? Boyle thanks him and files the info.

The trio leave the Institute and Gravik decides to follow up on things brought up in discussion with the others, in particular what about Deacon. He turns to his trusted street sources and finds that Deacon is not a native San Angelean. Deacon came to town a couple of years ago and has been something of a community activist and rabble rouser.
The team also follows up with the SAPD about the shooters identity. Master Juyo and Pittsburgh Steel feel that it was his actions that truly sparked the riot. The SAPD has found that the man is originally from Georgia. They are checking to see if he has any ties to Worth and was actually an accomplice in creating a riot.

Soon after that, Gravik receives an odd call fro Dr. Boris Manniov, of the Colorado lab of Eddington Industries. Manninov had run the tests on Gravik when he was there, Manninov tells him that Dr. Eddington wants to meet Gravik, and has sent a pilot to get him. Why the pilot came to Colorado, he’s not sure. In fact Manninov is not sure of a lot of things happening at Eddington. He tells Gravik that Dr. Eddington hasn’t been seen in a year, apparently hidden away at some u disclosed Eddington facility, No one knows where he is, but Manninov says that people that get curious end up getting fired. He asks Gravik to come to Colorado and perhaps bring help. He says that the pilot is very strange acting and doesn’t know anything a out Gravik, or who might be with him. He lets gravik know that he can arrange for a plane large enough for more than just him if needed. The Guardians agree to go with Gravik to Colorado, except for Paragon, who remains to man the HQ.
At Colorado Springs, the pilot IS very strange and hesitant to let everyone on the plane. But when Ohm says he’s electricity based, the pilot appears to get lost in thought and then suddenly agrees. The flight is quite a long one. By watching the terrain as they fly east, Pittsburgh steel is able to identify landmarks and knows they are headed to the east coast, and then they turn north. Eventually landing at a small airstrip, the group is met by a woman driving a Jeep Cherokee. She is Dr. Helena Britton. She wasn’t prepared for the whole team, especially Pittsburgh Steel. PS says he can jog along side the Jeep. As the team makes their way, Dr. Britton tells them that they are in Minnatonka, Maine. This is a secure location of Eddington Industries that is not known to the general employees, let alone the public. She tells them that Eddington bought the whole town and surrounding area during the early 70’s for a large development site. Aas they near a very small town in the woods, with a large modern building at the top of a hill, Pittsburgh Steel’s armor begins to act up – his arm twitches and acts on it’s own and he stumbles. Dr. Britoon stops the Jeep to give PS a chance to recover. She says that he is being affected by the very reason the whole facility exists. Eddington has triangulated 3 of its largest generators around the town and facility, and it is producing wireless energy. The electronics used in the area need a special adapter to properly receive the wireless energy, and shielding so it doesn’t disrupt the functions. PS’s armor needs to be shielded, and is acting up because of electrical surges. The town and facility have been wireless for 3 years, and it’s Dr. Eddington’s dream come true for clean energy, available to everyone.

As she explains this, Ohm groans and opens up the Jeep door. He crumples to the ground with an “I’m gonna be sick”. /he looks up at the sky, opens his mouth and a gout of electricity pours out of him skyward. About 300ft up, the electrical bolt splinters and arcs into thousands of rays, which form 3 wide ribbons of energy and shoot across the sky, towards the places where Dr Britton pointed to for the generators. Suddenly there is a larger gout of energy from Ohm upwards, and instead of feeding more electricity to the ribbons, there is a large spark in the sky and a hole appears at the convergence of the 3 ribbons. A few moments pass and then small, black winged creatures begin to float/fly out of the hole toward earth.

May 30
Soon after breaking up the Varrio Mission Boys hangout and getting the majority of the gang arrested, including their leader Azteca, the Guardians are contacted by representatives of Valiant Press Comics, who would like to meet with them. A quick check turns up basic info on the 2nd oldest comics company in the US and their basic approach to super comics. It is also found that they did a Southern Justice comic that included Twister. Pittsburgh Steel contacts the retired hero to get his take on the company and their dealings. With a positive report from Ethan (Twister), Pittsburgh Steel checks one more view on the comics from Jeremy. The computer/Pittsburgh Steel expert confirms most of what Ethan said. He did tell them that there are of course some people that have a loose grasp on reality and think that comics are real as are all the stories in them.
The team takes the meeting with Frank Kirby (artist) and Matt Hardy (lawyer) to discuss the prospect of a Golden City Guardians comic book. After a lengthy discussion, all of the team members sign on to the deal. A GCG company is set up by Paragon to have the royalties paid into so the team doesn’t have to give up their real identities. Everyone except Paragon agrre to have both their likeness and name used in the comic. Paragon already has his name tied to several events and entities that he feels would prevent him from having it used in the comic.

Afterwards, Paragon apologizes for his recent less than perfect behavior. He says that he ran into a few business troubles that took a toll in him and he did not respond well to the added pressure. He has all the deals straightened out and he is back on solid ground.

In addition to Paragon’s incredible admission of not being perfect, Jeremy needs some of the teams time. He has located backup tapes at the energy company that might contain info on Killabrew; the man responsible for Ohm being Ohm. The only problem is theybare personell records and the company isn’t going to give him access. He says he has a way in, but it’s not entirely legal. A rousing duscussion of right vs wrong and ends justifiying the means ensues. Pittsburgh Steel stands firm on not allowing Jeremy to break the law. The rest of the team accepts the situation as it is for now, though Ohm is still not happy with the outcome.

June 3
Early evening, the team is busy with nornal activites; Master Juyo is practicing in his dojo area, Pittsburgh Steel is in the Forge working out imrovements, Ohm is still working out his powers and their capabilities and Gravik is debating with himself about when to go the bar with his old comrades.
Pittsburgh Steel and Ohm both finally realize that they have been hearing several fire dispatch calls throughout the city. In fact, there are at least 6 active fires being battled and with the latest dispatch comes word that there are no more trucks available throughout the city. Everyine is out on a call. The team starts to gear up to go help when they notice the signs of a building on fire just across the river, in Old San Angelo.
The team heads to the fire and finds a 5 story building on fire. There is retail space on the first floor, while the top floor are apartments. It is an old building that has undergone some revitalization remodeling. There is a crowd of residents on the street and the sidewalk across from their home. They tell the team about who might still be in the building. Pittsburgh Steel goes to the fire hydrant across the street, opens it up and uses his huge gauntlets to direct the jet stream to the fire coming from a corner if the building. Gravik walks up the building to get in from a window, while Master Juyo runs in the apartment entrance. Ohm also goes in to help look for those trapped.
While battling the fire and rescuing people, word comes from other fire fighters that the sprinkler systems in the ither buildings were turned off. Ohm desolidifiesnand heads to the smoke filled basement to see ofnhe can get the system turned back on. Master Juyo finds an apartment that hwas been turned into a drug lab, and 2 of the drug dealers are still there, collecting cash and drugs. He quickly knocks them out and takes then out side. Gravik rescues a set of twins and takes them out as well. And plans on taking them out later…
Ohm finds a gas canister in the basement rigged with some sort of receiver attached to it. A bomb! Without realizingnit, his forcefield had already disrupted the circuts in the receiver and disabled it. He finds the sprinkler controls, but isn’t strong enough to turn the valve. Just as he and Pittsburgh Steel plan on switching spots, there’s a suprise attack on Pittsburgh Steel! The pyromaniac Blowtorch steps out from an alleyway and tells Steel to stop interfering in his fire. A gout of firenfrom his flamethrower does little to Pittsburgh Steel. A short fight ensues between Pittsburgh Steel, Ohm and Blowtorch. Blowtorch tries ti set off his bomb in the building, but it was disabled. However, explosions from the other fires can be heard – not all of the devices were found. Pittsburgh Steel doesn’t hold back in his next hit, and Blowtorch is taken down hard. His gas tank explodes and he is engulfed in his own fires. Pittsburgh Steel puts out the fire, and Blowtorch is barely alive and horribly burned. Steel goes and turns on the sprinkler system.
After this fire is partly under control, the team spreads out into the city to help with the other fires. 3 firefighters were killed and 12 others injured in Blowtorch’s explosions. Pittsburgh Steel wrestles with the fact he held back when the fight started, allowing Blowtorch the opportunity to detonate the other devices.

Golden City Guardians #3B
Where's Sebastian

The team escorts the PART van to the San Angelo County Jail downtown. Despite the concerns that Sampson might try to break free his teammates, the trip is uneventful. There, Icicle and Bulldozer are loaded onto gurneys and taken into the jail for booking. Since they have Gaines’ collars on, they can’t move. Not so for Foxbat. As he is lead into jail in handcuffs, he yells back at the Guardians. “You’ve not heard the last of the Foxbat! I will be free again and you will rue the day you crossed wits with the Foxbat and the Masters of Crime!”

Pittsburgh Steel, Ohm and Gravik look at each other. Together they say “And some are just loony”.

Corporal Howser thanks the team for helping them out, and for escorting them to the jail. As the team prepares to leave, a police transport van exits from the garage of the jail. Howser asks if the Guardians should be at the courthouse since the van has Dr. Aldus Morgan in it, and the judge is ruling on if he’s competent to stand trial today. That’s news!

The Guardians are still concerned that Sampson might try something, and that something might happen at the courthouse. Since he moves the slowest, Pittsburgh Steel follows the van to the courthouse while Ohm and Gravik keep an eye on the jail. They think this will allow either group to hold on until the other part of them arrives if anything happens.

Pittsburgh Steelnheads to the Oro County Courthouse, only to find a large group of reporters and bystanders on the steps of the courthouse. The reporters are clustered around a bald man of unknown age. It turns out to be Morgan’s son, Stephen.
Stephen Morgan is making a statement, speaking about how he hopes the judge will see that his father is mentally ill and needs help. That Dr Morgan does need to be held accountable for his actions, but hopefully there is a way that he can get help and make amends without jail time. Morgan sees Pittsburgh Steel and says that he thanks the Golden City Guardians for capturing his father and treating him humanely during his capture. And for giving his father the possibility of getting the help he needs.
Morgan starts to talk about his father’s condition when a small man in a suit next to him whispers to him. Stephen Morgan stops and says he can’t say anymore since that would violate a gag order. And that the court session is about to start. Morgan and the family lawyer head in followed by some of the reporters.

Other reporters seek out Pittsburgh Steel to ask him his views about Dr Morgan, his mental state and how he should be punished. Pittsburgh Steel deflects the controversial questions by stating it’s in the hands of the courts and he couldn’t comment on Morgan’s mental state. Tobi Cantrell does a few follow up questions, including asking Pittsburgh Steel if he has any thoughts about the rumor that an electronic device was found attached to Dr Morgan’s brain. ??? Pittsburgh responded simply that he doesn’t comment on rumors, since they are …. rumors,

Graik and Ohm decide that nothing is going to happen at the jail and join Pittsburgh steel at the courthouse. Pittsburgh Steel is worried that someone may try to free Dr. Morgan, if this rumor about an electronic device on his brain is true. If it was there, someone may have been controlling him, and ay try to get him back!

About 1/2 hour after the court session starts, Stephen Morgan returns to the steps of the courthouse. “Of course we are pleased that my father was declared unfit for trial. We would have preferred a different facility, but hopefully he can get the help he needs at the Jasper Mental Institution”.

The Guardians think the transport would be a perfect time for someone to grab Morgan. But only Ohm would be able to keep up with the transport. Ohm waits for the transport to leave so he can follow it from high above. The reast of the team returns to headquarters. Soon after, 4 transport vans leave the courthouse, each going a different direction. Ohm picksnone to follow but it’s route takes it back to the courthouse. Ohm goes as fast as he can to the Jasper asylumn, and arrives just as a black sedan pulls upnat the front of the facility. Dr. Morgan is escorted in by 2 plain clothes officers and followed by his son, Stephen. Ohm goes back to the CGC headqurters.

May 23rd, 1985

Pittsburgh Steel begins work on Ohm’s idea about a small radio transmitter that could be attached to someone, so that Ohm could use his signal tracking ability to follow or find them.

Gravik leaves the base to head to the hangout with his comrades. On the way, he sees a group of 4 men getting ready to shoot another person in an alleyway. The guy with the gun is heard saying in a hispanic accent " Azteca said to kill him in the Russian area, and maybe Gravik will think they did it." Just before he shoots, Gravik jumps down into the alley and a furious fight ensues. The victim gets free and joins in taking down the gang members. After the 4 are down – one thrown on the roof, 2 in gravity entangles and one knocked out trying to drive away – the victim turns to Gravik and…. it’s Sebastian.

Sebastian tells Gravik to call the cops for these 4 and he’s going to leave. Gravik says “OK”.
After a few seconds of reconsideration, Gravik calls the cops and joins Sebastian as he heads to the North Mission neighborhood. On the way, Sebastian let’s Gravik in on what’s happened. See Sebastian’s Bad Month.

Rescuing Ophelia
Gravik and Sebastian move quickly to Ophelia Garza’s house, where the Vario Mission Boys are supposed to be going to or already at, and getting ready ready to kill her. The 2 get to the house and Sebastian rushes in. He quickly dispatches 3 VMBs while Gravik TK’s another out into the yard. Sebastian takes down the 4th one inside, rushes out and takes out the 5th VMB. Going back in, Sebastian and Gravik help up Ophelia and make sure there aren’t any other VMBs in the house. There aren’t. Ophelia tells Sebastian that the other VMBs have taken her daughter, Maria, back to the VMB hangout. It’s the old factory that Sebastian was at earlier.
The 2 head towards the factory and call Pittsburgh Steel and Ohm to meet them there.

Vario Mission Boys and Azteca
Surprisingly, Pittsburgh Steel and Ohm beat the other 2 to the factory. They take out a few perimeter baddies at them main door and PS utilized toxic clinkers to knock out rooftop shooters. Ohm enters the facility first and is shot up pretty bad and exits the facility at some point to rest. He discovers that his energy body isn’t as protective as he thought against bullets!
Gravik and Sebastian enter from a back door and have to fight their way in. Once inside,
PS continues to lay down crowd control clinkers as Gravic and Master Juyo fight Azteca, the leader of the VMBs. Azteca focuses on Sebastian.
Ohm eventually returns and he and PS take out the remaining VMBs.
Azteca proves to be a match for a weakened Sebastian and knocks him out.
PS stays in communication with Ohm, who heads up into the factory to finds\ the hostage and her captors and takes them all out with a burst or two.
Pittsburgh Steel is able to get Azteca to close with him and knocks the gang leader into the floor, and then Gravid hits him while he’s down – teamwork in action!

The cops are a called again and the Guardian’s have made another dent in the gang landscape of San Angelo

Golden City Guardians #3A

Crazy Like a Foxbat (cut scene)

Foxbat, the Master of Crime, poses against the setting sun from the roof of the Twilight Tower. He surveys the downtown area of San Angelo, and then looks to the surrounding suburbs. With knowledge of the weight of the moment, Foxbat draws in a breath, and speaks. “As I stand on the edge of the Twilight Tower, so does San Angelo stand on the edge of its twilight as the Golden City. For Foxbat has arrived. The Master of Crime is upon them. And he shall gather together his Masters of ……Crime?”
No, that won’t work. Maybe he’ll figure that out later.

Sometime ago, Foxbat started a new master plan to create a super-villain team under his leadership. His plan was to set up a scavenger hunt and whoever was successful would be part of his team. Unfortunately only 3 supers tried to get the coveted pink diamonds in San Angelo. Maybe he should have used a bigger personals ad? Anyway, Sampson, Bulldozer and Icicle tried, but failed to get the diamonds and Icicle got arrested. Despite that setback, Foxbat believes the trio is perfect for his team because they tried. No not tried, they recognized their destinies to be a part of his team and responded to his summons. Yeah, that’s it.

He paid Icicle’s bond and got her out of jail. A little more money spread around….at the San Angelo Times to get the other 2 to meet him. Foxbat met with each of the super criminals alone and got them each to agree to work with him and whoever else he could get. He promised riches and power. But he’d be the boss. While Icicle, Bulldozer and Sampson all knew Foxbat was crazy, they new his kind of crazy sometimes worked. And more importantly, the money the crazy guy himself had backing him was going to be pretty good by itself.

On a date that won’t be remembered for this, Foxbat’s latest master plan moved into it’s next phase when the newly formed criminal group met for the first time at 2:20pm, Monday, May 20th, 1985. And promptly fell into argument and Bulldozer and Sampson started fighting……………

Monday, May 20th, 1985

In the new normal for the Golden City Guardian’s, life is quiet. Super criminal activity is down as is non-super crime. Pittsburgh Steel is working hard at moving Dash Steel forward in the market and building up the business. Gravik is still working on the I-7 bridge reconstruction, and Ohm is practicing with his powers so he is not a danger to others. Paragon is away from the GCG Headquarters more often than not, citing needs of business and other commitments.

In the early afternoon, Ohm’s senses pick up on calls for the San Angelo Paranormal Alert Response Team to be dispatched to a scene in La Vista. PART is called when supers are involved! Ohm heads into the headquarters to let Pittsburgh Steel know.

Pittsburgh Steel calls Lt. Chet Dawes, the SAPD liaison to the GCG to see if they should go the scene to help. Dawes tells him to go and help out. Ohm calls Gravik and the trio head towards La Vista. Pittsburgh Steel wanted to check with Dawes in case Lt. House, the head of PART, questions their arrival.

PART triumphant

The area has been cordoned off by the normal patrol officers. Lt. House has his men spreading out into positions around the subject while a negotiator tries to talk the subject into surrendering. The La Vista streets are empty as the police try to surround and contain a young man pacing in the street. Small houses line the 2-lane road.
From initial appearances, it looks to be just a normal guy having a bad day and the police trying to keep the situation from getting out of control. But upon closer a closer look, it becomes obvious why PART was called. The street where the young man is pacing is scarred, blackened and pock-marked; almost like from an explosion. Then it can be noticed his hands glisten in the sun, and as the “sweat” drips off of them, they land with a small burst on the ground. He is exuding an explosive liquid.

2 patrol officers stop the Guardians before they reach the interior lines where House is at. One of them goes to let House know that the Guardians had arrived.

Lt. House is not pleased to see the GCG. He tells them not to interfere, “We’ve got this. Stay put and don’t touch anything.”

The Guardian’s spread out a little near the line of cars blocking the street where the super is at.

The negotiator comes up to House and says that he’s not making any progress – the guy won’t talk, at least not to him. He’s talking a lot but doesn’t know to who. He seems to be getting more agitated and the sweat bombs are becoming more frequent. House tells the negotiator to give him another chance to surrender on his mark. The negotiator says that it doesn’t have to end with a shoot out. “It won’t”, House replies. As the negotiator walks away House brings up his radio and checks with his teams to see what positions his teams have been able to secure. After finding out where everybody is at, House makes his tactical decision – “Hover, Jameson, Billups load with shock, Stockton, Manning, ready Nets, Sin-gin, you’re on the narco, Vaski, Pearson you’ve got C&C”.

As House looks over the scene, he steps up to the negotiator and tells him to try again. The officer raises the bullhorn and tells the man to surrender so no one gets hurt, to lay down and let them help him. It seems like this finally gets through to the man, but the wrong way. He raises his arm and a get of flame shots out toward the squad car. It doesn’t quite get there. But House yells "NOW!’ into his radio. 3 loud shots ring out, and a shower of sparks surround the young man, at his chest, his feet and one off to the side on the ground. As he bends over and teeters, 2 “WHOOMPS” come out and weighted nets wrap the man up and cause him to fall over. While he’s still disorientated, another officer in PART gear moves up quickly from a side yard and fires a small handgun at the man on the ground. There is no noise from it. The man stops moving.

“Collar and cuffs NOW!” yells House. 2 more PART officers run forward and work at getting a Gaines collar on the man as well as handcuffs.

House turns to the GCG. “New equipment thanks to Hunter-Price Arms – shock shells fired from a 12-gauge to stun ’em, weighted nets to wrap ’em up, and a narco-dart strong enough to bring down an elephant. You guys can go home and let the professionals handle this from now on.” A smug smile appears on House’s face.

Pittsburgh Steel can’t take House’s attitude anymore and the 2 get into an argument. Pittsburgh Steel telling House he needs to treat them with more respect, and House telling PS that the GCG are not police officers, they’re civilians and subject o him. It ends with House calling calling PS ‘iron Butt’ and PS calling House an ‘a@@hole’. PS finished off with a ‘Bring it’ and walks away.

Just then an emergency calls in over the radios (Ohm and Pittsburgh Steel can pick up the call directly, Gravik hears it on House’s radio). There are 2 supers fighting in the Irish Bar neighborhood. Bulldozer is one of them, Sampson is suspected to be the other. “Are you sure about the identities?” House asks. The response comes back "One is described as a white male over 6’ muscular, bald, shirtless and with the word Bulldozer on his arm. The other is in a red and white outfit with long blond hair. "

House looks mad, hard to tell though. He gets back on his radio “Dispatch, roll with Bulldog 2 on Irish Bar. We are still scene.” He mumbles some, pauses and then yells into his team radio – “Vaski, Pearson! Get him wrapped up and to booking in Transport 1. Hover and Stockton, work with the patrol officers to work the area. Everyone else, Clear weapons and head to Transport 2. I want to roll in 5 minutes. Move it! We’ve got people depending on us”

The officers begin doing the tasks House has ordered. It is obvious that House wants to get more officers to the Brawl on Irish Bar.

Gravik knows that PART keeps 2 teams on call at all times, usually in San Angelo and South San Angelo. They should be able to get to the scene before the Bulldog 2, and definitely before House and the short-handed bulldog 1 team.

They head out. On the way, Pittsburgh Steel works through the channels to talk with the leader of Bulldog 2, Corporal Howser, to see if they want assistance. Howser says they should be OK, but would appreciate the Guardian’s to be nearby in case any of the supers try to escape. Howser seems much more agreeable than House.

Enter the Foxbat!

The GCG all think it’s a good idea to take a secondary role on this one and only help out if asked. They get to the scene first, but don’t see any sign of the criminals. While waiting, Gravik takes stock of the buildings in the area to see if any are in danger of falling if they are damaged. Pittsburgh Steel mentions his concerns about PART’s response to the La vista super. It seemed to him that the super was treated like a criminal to be taken down without any regard to how he became that way. Ohm sees no other people around, except the increasing number of faces at the windows of a factory at the end of the street.

Just then, Bulldozer comes flying through a wall of the building on the other side of the street. He lands in the middle of the street, followed quickly by Sampson landing next to Bulldozer. The 2 supers soon gain their feet and begin wrestling. The GCG begin to think that standing by may not be the best idea with all of the witnesses from the factory. Just as they begin to move, Bulldozer pulls off an amazing hip throw on Sampson, tossing him down the street, into the intersection. And right into the engine block of the lead transport van of Bulldog 2, disabling the vehicle.

Contacting Howser, the Guardians tell him that they’ll handle Bulldozer if PART wants Sampson, since he;s right in front of them. He agrees and the Guardians begin moving into positions. Bulldozer doesn’t see them, but sees the PART van and jumps towards them, with a gleeful shout of ’COOOPPPPPSSSS!!"

Sampson responds by grabbing the front of the van, lifting it up and slamming it down onto Bulldozer. Bulldozer goes through the roof of the van cargo area and is now inside the van with PART troopers. One cheeky PART officers let’s the Guardian;s know that they have Bulldozer contained. Not really though.

Bulldozer leaves the van by tearing through the side and Sampson charges Pittsburgh Steel. He misses him though somehow. Gravik gets into the street and Ohm hovers above everybody. Pittsburgh Steel takes on Bulldozer, Ohm keeps missing Sampson, and Icicle makes her presence known by entangling Gravik in an ice block. the fight continues slowly, with PS flash firing Bulldozer several times the keep the brute blinded and basically out of the fight. Icicle entangles and freezes Gravik more and Sampson keeps missing his moves throughs while Ohm keeps missing his blasts.

Eventually the PART team is able to get out the van and the 2nd transport and enter the fight. They fire upon the blinded Bulldozer. Gravik gets free of the ice blocks long enough to hit Icicle with ‘Weight of the world’, causing the freeze queen to lose all of her endurance and collapse. Pittsburgh Steel is able to slam Sampson into Bulldozer and Bulldozer des the same, using Sampson as a weapon and throws him into a PART officer. It’s enough for Sampson and he retreats.

Just then, Foxbat appears on the top of the parking ramp, tell s the Guardian’s to leave his team alone and opens fire on Ohm. Ohm and Foxbat trade barbs that hit more than their shots. Things keep going downhill and Foxbat decides to retreat and hits Ohm with a smoke screen to blind him. Unfortunately, Ohm can track and target Foxbat stiil because of Foxbat’s earpiece. Ohm moves in close enough to hit Foxbat a few times and takes down the Master Criminal.

Pittsburgh Steel finishes of Bulldozer, then makes sure Icicle does not get back up again. PART officers put collar and cuffs on Icicle and Bulldozer, and handcuff Foxbat and take his gear.

Several officers are injured. Just before anything else can be done, House and Bulldog 1 show up. House gets out and starts towards the Guardians and Howser. Before he gets there, Ohm drops down in front of him and gets in his face about his attitude and how well the Guardian’s just did. House tells Ohm that dropped charges can always be refiled and he’ll find something on Ohm if he needs to. Howser comes over to the 2 and Ohm leaves. The Guardians were willing to leave, but Howser has asked that they escort the second PART van from Bulldog 2 with the prisoners, while the rest of the team gets their injuries treated. The Guardians agree and House leaves the conversation visibly unhappy.

Golden City Guardians #2

February 2nd through May 13th, 1985

After the fight at Orion Labs and getting decontaminated, Gravik is admitted to Farady Medical Clinic to recover from the rest of the radiation poisoning and damage he took from Nuke.

Pittsburgh Steel does another check on Silver Fist. The metal man is still in custody while at Faraday, but will soon be transferred to Canefield State Penitentiary. Silver Fist is still depressed due to his condition, that seems to still be changing. The dark streaks that were moving across his silvery skin have completely covered him and his stone has taken on a more dark grey granite look and feel. In his own words “As Jerome, I was a loser junkie. As Silver Fist I was a loser drug pusher and muscle. Now what am I?”

Pittsburgh Steel tries to reassure him that he is a man of worth and has potential to do great things and that he can have a different life.

After Gravik is released from the hospital, he contacts the local Eddington Industries offices and arranges to meet with Dr. Sanjay Rajesh to discuss Orion Labs’ findings. Dr. Rajesh reviews the material, but decides Gravik needs to see higher ups at the home office in Colorado Springs. At those offices, built next to the remains of Telsa’s Wardenclyffe tower, Gravik meets and works with Dr. Boris Manninov to verify the materials. After more than 2 days, and Manninov noticing Gravik’s power decline after being denied access to a generator, Director of Regional Operations Janice Jagesky clears Gravik as a non-threat to the operations of the generators. She says that the owners of the generators in San Angelo will be notified of their findings.

While Gravik is in Colorado, Pittsburgh Steel (Hank Dawson) returns to Pittsburgh to catch up on company business for Dash Steel. He always wants to base with Jeremy. A representative from NASA, Harper Gavin, meets with Hank to discuss the possibilities of NASA purchasing and using Dash Steel in their work to give a new generation of satellites and refitting Skylab with the heat resistant steel. Hank agrees and Dash Steel continues to grow.
As Pittsburgh Steel, he meets with Jeremy to catch up on happenings there. Jeremy has come across a photo of a flyer from NYC. It apparently was put up by the insane man calling himself Foxbat and he want minions to join him in San Angelo where his next master plan to take over the world will start. Pittsburgh Steel agrees to look into and plans to turn the information over to the SAPD.

As time passes quickly, work on the GCG headquarters progresses and the team tries to become a cohesive unit. It doesn’t go well. Master Juyo decides that the path of the costumed adventurer is not form him. He decides to turn in the mask and robes and take up his hoodie again and go back to wandering the streets of San Angelo. He’s not sure if his path will take him away from the city.

The SAPD don’t have any indication that Foxbat is in the city. There has been a drop in super activity. Bulldozer and Sampson have made a couple of small robberies together, but nothing big and they’ve escaped before PART could get there. Icicle was released on bond, and has disappeared. They don’t think she’s in town anymore. Nothing has been seen of the ….Vibrator.

Both Gravik and Pittsburgh Steel notice unusual behavior by Paragon. He seems very tense and agitated. He is short-tempered and seems off physically – he’s missed some easy acrobatic moves while on patrol and dealing with the normal street criminals. Gravik approaches him but gets told “I’m fine. There’s nothing wrong” and Paragon ends the discussion by leaving.

Not long after, one evening at the headquarters, while Pittsburgh Steel awaits for a better chance to talk with Paragon, the lights of the headquarters go out. Both Gravik and Pittsburgh Steel are at the headquarters and go outside. All of West San Angelo is dark. A major power failure. To the north of the headquarters, near the river, the 2 heroes see a glow. Then lightning shoots up into the sky. Or perhaps Foxbat has started his master plan? Literally jumping into action, the pair head up. Pittsburgh Steel is fairly confident the glow comes from an area where a power substation sits along the river.

Unkown to the heroes:
One evening, just after dark, Grady McGregor gets a pager call to respond to a warning signal at Substation #4. He figures his repair partner Harmond Filligrew will get the same page and heads out. When he gets to the substation, there is a truck there, but it’s not Harmond’s. Grady goes into the control block and find Orin Mathews, another one of many disgruntled employees, planting dynamite about the substation. Orin pulls a gun on Grady. A big gun. Orin says that the company has to pay. Grady knows Orin’s wife is dying of cancer and there are rumors that the company insurance canceled their policy and now he’s deep in debt trying to afford her care. Grady tries to talk to him, but he gets more agitated and shoots Grady. The bullet tears through Grady’s lower spine. Crawling out of the control block, Grady’s hands and arms start to crackle with electricity. In a burst of electricity, Ohm is born and Grady is lost, for now. Confused, scared and not in control of his powers, some damage is done to the substation. Then the Golden City Guardians show up

The 2 heroes reach substation #4 of the Western Gas & Electric. They jump over the wall and see a large ball of energy rolling on the ground under some of the wires with electricity arcing off of it. As they get closer, the see that it is actually a man. Suddenly, Ohm sits up and shouts “Stay away!” and fires a powerful electrical blast at Pittsburgh Steel, striking the armored hero. Gravik attempts to trap the electrical being in a gravity field. Ohm’s body diffuses and floats out of the trap. Pittsburgh Steel fires a heat blasts that goes through Ohm. Ohm recombines and has electrical tendril shoot out and strike at both heroes. The fight continues and the large transformer gets damaged, as does several high power lines and the superstructure holding them up. Pittsburgh Steel gets close to Ohm while he is floating low off the ground. With a mighty downward strike, he drives Ohm into the ground where he lays stunned. Deciding it’s a good idea to get the electricity shooting being away from the substation quickly, Pittsburgh Steel picks up Ohm while Gravik makes his way across the control blockhouse to see if he can start shutting things down.

As he almost clears the area of the transformer, it explodes! It stuns Pittsburgh Steel, and does some damage to Gravik. The Ohm is returned to full health and fully conscious, and begins to get his memories back. But not quite. Pittsburgh Steel pops up and fires a heat blast at Ohm, who fires an electrical blast back at the same time. The blast don’t do much to either of them, except clear the rest of the cobwebs from Grady’s memory. He remembers that Orin is in the control center getting ready to blow it up. Ohm flies to the doorway, shaking off another blast from Pittsburgh Steel. Inside, he finds Orin with a deadman switch in one hand, and the gun in the other.

Grady begins talking with Orin. Gravik comes in and tries to help. Pittsburgh Steel rips the doorway open and adds his voice to talking Orin out of blowing up the substation. Orin finally gives up, but it may be too late. Looking at the consoles, Grady sees that the main plant has lost communication with the substation which means that it can’t be shut down remotely. Worse, there is a backfeed surge building that will send a power surge from the substation to the main plant, doing terrible damage there. Ohm can’t touch the control console but Gravik can. Pittsburgh Steel helps Gravik with the commands and processes for shutting down the substation. Ohm goes desolid and enters the large circuit breaker for the power lines leading back to the main plant. In there, he attempts to absorb the backfeed surge. Tense moments go by until finally the shutdown is complete. Ohm falls out of the machines, and returns to his human form.

The cops arrive. Pittsburgh Steel turns Orin over to them. Gravik finds Grady, bloodied and paralyzed. Suddenly, Grady’s body turns back into electricity and he returns to consciousness. His first question is if they stopped the power surge. After a discussion, Ohm turns himself over to the SAPD to be held for questioning. The police find out that Gaine’s collars don’t work on Ohm.

It takes some time to sort things out. Grady’s wife visits him in jail and is heartbroken over the transformation of her husband. She can’t accept the change, and leaves him. The Western G&E company press charges against both Grady and Orin. With video tape of Ohm’s breakout, they file injunctions to freeze Grady’s assets.
Working through Callie Dalton (Corona) to talk with the power companies lawyers, the power company decides it would be better to drop the criminal charges against Grady. They insist on still having Orin charged and still want to pursue civil claims against them. .
While Grady is still in jail, his buddy and work partner Harmond Filligrew visits him. In a weird scene, Harmond admits that he planned on Grady being killed in Orin’s explosion, so that Harmond could get Grady’s wife. In his rants, Harmond says he’s tried since high school to get Grady’s wife to fall for him. He’s even taken out other men to keep her. Then Grady comes along and marries her. He’s been planning on killing Grady for some time and has now failed twice. And now has to come up with a way to kill Ohm. Harmond says that no trace of himself will ever be found. Not being able to take any more, Ohm readies an energy blast. Harmond anticipates it and does nothing? When Ohm blasts him, the electricity doesn’t affect Harmond. Ohm tries again to no effect. Harmond unleashes an ego blast and stuns Ohm. He then leaves. Ohm uses his powers to contact Pittsburgh Steel to go check on Grady’s wife and tells him about Harmond.
When Pittsburgh Steel gets to Madelynn (Grady’s wife), she doesn’t know any Harmond from her past, only the one her husband works with. Pittsburgh Steel tells her she may be in danger. She decides to take the kids to her mother’s in Albuquerque.

The team finds that there is no one at the power company that remembers a “Harmond Filligrew”, and there are no records of him working there. Pittsburgh Steel tries to search the company computer records with their permission. He find irregularities, but no Harmond. He asks Jeremy to try. Jeremy discovers that there are personnel, payroll and other records missing and tampered with by an expert. Before he can discover anything else, his own system is attacked and crashed by a virus.

With the charges dropped, Ohm is released. But has no home to return to. The GCG take him in seeing him as a potential hero.

Gravik is called to work on the rebuilding of the I7 bridge. Given his powers, he’d be good for that. While getting up to the highest tower, he finds one of the native American steel workers. The old man talks cryptically for a while with Gravik, to no avail. Gravik just doesn’t get what the old man is really saying. Frustrated, the old Indian says trouble is coming to San Angelo in the fall. With that he jumps from the bridge and turns into a bird and flies away.

Golden City Guardians #1A
Orion Labs

Pittsburgh Steel and Gravik make contact with people at Orion Labs who are more than happy to help them. The robotics team have a bugbot head and are excited about the bugbot body that Pittsburgh Steel has. The physics team will help Gravik identify his effect on the Eddington Generators. Master Juyo decides to come along as well. Paragon has some work to do about the new base. The trio make it to the Arroyo Verde without incident and are directed to the appropriate labs by a pretty lax security guard.
At the Robotics Barn, Dr. Franklin Colt himself is waiting for Pittsburgh Steel and the get to work on figuring the robot out. They find that the power cell may very well be a plasma cell. Such a thing is still experimental to most labs. Gravik goes to the Physics lab where they find out that when he charges himself from the generator, he actually causes the generator to spike in power. This would be an impossible occurrence in nature and probably what the Eddington investigation team is trying to figure out.
Master Juyo is going to get a tour of the main lab complex. On the way there. he sees a state police car, a flatbed truck with something big under a tarp and several techs at a nearby building. He tries to investigate on his own, but his security guard escort stops him. So he can drive Master Juyo to the building. There they find a large black box with a rounded lid under the tarp. Juyo investigates it but can’t seem to see what it’s about. He’s not able to open the box and can hear a humming sound coming from inside. Just then, a booming voice from above yells out for the group to turn over the box. It is Sunburst, one of the more powerful supers in the world, a megalomaniac and criminal know for wanton destruction. He wants the box back since it apparently contains his friend Nuke, who is another powerful super.
Master Juyo stands on top of the box while the security guard and techs take cover, and sound the alarm. Sunburst fires a super-heated blast at Master Juyo, but misses and hits the flatbed. He blasts again knocking Juyo off the box. He hefts the box, but it’s weight prevents him from skyrocketing away. Reacting to the alarm, Hank runs full out to get to his armor. Gravik runs full out to get out of the physics lab. Juyo takes a risk and tries to knock the box from Sunburst’s precarious hold, but misses. Gravik arrives on the scene while Hank gets in the armor and heads out.
Gravik is able to knock the box from Sunburst’s hands. It falls hard and cracks open. A large green skinned man rolls out at Juyo’s feet. Master Juyo checks on the new arrival to find him unconcious, and apparently radioactive. He’s killing the grass around him and Master Juyo is feeling a little sick. Sunburst attacks everyone and Nuke regains conciousness. Pittsburgh Steel arrives to lend a hand. A lot of fighting occurs. Pittsburgh Steel is able to throw Sunburst off of his game plan by taunting him and keeping him in a smoke cloud, occasionally hitting the powerful super. Master Juyo and Gravik battle Nuke, both taking horrible damage from the radiation flooding the air around Nuke. Nuke himself tries to pummel his foes. Both sides find it difficult to hit one another. Sunburst and Nuke resort to explosion attacks to get the heroes to drop.
Pittsburgh Steel is nearly able to knock Sunburst out, but the smoke cloud prevents the rest of the Guardian’s from helping out Plus, they’re kind of busy trying to keep Nuke away from Sunburst to prevent both criminals from getting away. Master Juyo shows a tremendous amount of resilience as he is dropped several times, but gets back up again to join the fight. Gravik absorbs radiation levels that would kill a lesser man in his attempts to KO the green-skinned Nuke.
Finally, Sunburst lands several successful and powerful blasts on the Golden City Guardians and is able to get to Nuke. He grabs his compatriot and flies off. Despite the apparrent loss of the battle, the Golden City Guardians were able to stop Sunburst from doing any damage to the Orion Labs facilities and kept the employees safe from harm. On top of that, they went toe to toe with 2 of the most powerful and ruthless supers in the nation. Not only did they hold their own, they nearly defeated Sunburst.

Golden City Guardians #1
Headquarters Hunting

After meeting with Chief O’Shea, Gravik, Sebastian, Pittsburgh Steel and Paragon agree to become a super team called The Golden City Guardians. One of the first orders of business is to find a headquarters. Paragon begins to gather each team members’ requirements and starts pouring over the real estate sections. After a few days he turns up some possible locations. On a Sunny afternoon of January 30th, the team heads out to check out the locations. They decide to go out of costume to be less conspicuous.

Headquarters Hunting in San Angelo:
The 1st location is in the North Mission neighborhood, just off of the Golden City Expressway bridge. An abandoned towing company location, the place turns out to be best used a blank slate and have everything built new. There are concerns about the safety of the headquarters and privacy. The area is home to the Vario Mission Boys, one of the gangs that Sebastian has tangled with in the past.

The 2nd location is a closed fraternal lodge in Piper Glen near the river. On the way there, along one of the business streets of Piper Glen, the team runs into some trouble. A security guard comes flying through the glass doors of a jewelry store, landing in the middle of th street. The team is caught unprepared to meet trouble. No one is is costume, and that means no armor for Pittsburgh Steel. A large, muscular and bald man steps out of the jewelry store with a bag in his hand. he ha Bulldozer tattooed on his arm. And yes, that is his name. Even though they are no in costume, the team starts to act. Master Juyo attempts to get out of the moving El Dorado and close with Bulldozer. He misjudges the speed of the car and takes a tumble. Gravik leaps form the backseat as well to a position on top of a city bus. Paragon slows the car to a stop.
Gravik traps Bulldozer with a gravity well, but the bruiser is able to break out. Master Juyo attempts to stop Bulldozer as well, but fails. Paragon gets out of the car to check on the injured security guard. Suddenly another super shows up by smashing into the front of the bus Gravik is standing on. The bus is moved a good 30 feet backwards. Gravik is able top maintain his perch on top of the bus. Sampson is here to get the diamonds and taunts Bulldozer. The battle breaks into a 3-way fight with Master Juyo keeping Bulldozer down with legsweeps, Sampson trying to get the diamonds from Bulldozer, Gravik attempting to stop both the bricks and finally sealing off the diamonds from both of them. Then another super criminal arrives. Icicle shows up to take the diamonds for herself. She’s able to grab the diamonds. Bulldozer still can’t get up and Sampson keeps kicking him in the head. Then yet another super show up. Pittsburgh Steel hears a humming sound and then a shimmering energy field as a man steps through a portal. He announces himself as the ……. Vibrator.
Bulldozer actually decides to leave since he feels there is no chance of getting the stolen goods now. Icicle tries to flee with the jewels, but Master Juyo is able to stop her. Pittsburgh Steel, even without his armor, tries to help. He wrestles Vibrator’s power wand away from him. He tries to break the connection between the wand and the power backpack. Gravik is able to trap Vibrator in a gravity well, bt he is able to teleport out. But he damages his vibration devices. Some more fighting and Sampson finally gives up and leaves. Vibrator’s backpack and vibration wand malfunction and he is teleported somewhere. The team leaves the unconcious Icicle for the cops and make a hasty exit.

The 3rd location in West Angelo turns out to be the abandoned warehouse that Pittsburgh Steel used as a base when he first came to San Angelo. It is decided that this is a great spot for a base.

The team returns to Piper Glen to check out the fraternal lodge and decide it would not fit their needs.

Tales Of San Angelo #4
Radley Manor

After the events of Last Issue, the heroes have a little down time to pursue some items of their own.
Pittsburgh Steel begins research on the headless bugbot delivered to the impound lot (See “The Bugbot Revealed” section below for more info). He also hears from Chi-Town’s lawyer. Chi-Town’s family won’t give up any of his stuff. Someone tried to buy things from them. V-8’s family did sell all of his stuff. He can’t locate Freight Train’s family. The buyer was a company called Propulsion Systems Limited. The lawyer cannot find any info on it.

Gravik continues to re-charge himself on Eddington Generators and trying to see how fast the investigators arrive (See below for more info).

Sebastian maintains his normal activity of following his instincts to find those in trouble.

January 17th
The new San Angelo Police Department Paraormal Liason Officer, Lt. Chet Dawes, contacts Pittsburgh Steel. Dawes tells him that the joint Gang Task Force is going to have a couple of officers check out the San Angelo address that Steel gave them. The 2 officers will be checking out the address on the 18th. Dawes wants to know if Pittsburgh Steel is still interested in going with the officers. Steel tells him yes and asks if Gravik and Sebastian can join them. Dawes says he has no problem with that.
Pittsburgh Steel also learns that Dawes had no idea that a headless bugbot had been delivered to him. Dawes thought only some scraps had been sent.

January 18th:
Late morning, the team meets up with the 2 officers from the Gang Task Force. They have a small moving van available to transport Pittsburgh Steel. The 2 vehicles head out to Radley Manor, an abandoned residence in Starmont Estates out in the suburbs of La Vista. The cops are going to investigate the grounds. Sebastian joins them. While they check out the grounds and outside of the manor, a group of kids discover Sebastian and Pittsburgh Steel in the van. The kids are very excited and mob Pittsburgh Steel. He is able to get most of the kids to leave in case there is danger. The older kids tell him about a “thing” and a “ghost” that is in the old manor. Pittsburgh Steel enters the grounds just as the cops and Sebastian are done looking around the house. As that group starts down the driveway, Pittsburgh Steel forcibly opens the grarage door leading to a basement. Inside he sees several motorcycles.

Suddenly there is an explosion of gunfire. A machinegun from the 2nd story opens up, shooting both cops. A biker leans out a 1st floor window and shoots Pittsburgh Steel with a shotgun. The team leaps into action. Gravik uses his power to lift one cop to safety outside the grounds. Pittsburgh Steel blocks the other cop from further attacks and carries him to safety. He then tells the other kids to run.

Sebastian leaps through the 1st floor window tackling the biker with the shotgun.
Gravik leaps to the manor and begins making his way to the machine gunner on the 2nd floor. Pittsburgh Steel converges on the open garage.

Gravik attacks the machine gun punk with “Weight of the world”, exhausting the punk to the point he can’t move. Sebastian breaks the shotgun and moves further into the manor, combating another biker in the foyer. Pittsburgh Steel sees 2 bikers getting on their bikes in the garage. He launches a smoke clunker into the garage and blinds them.

One biker tries to escape the smoke-filled garage and runs into the wall. Pittsburgh Steel lays in front of the doorway, blocking the other bikers’ escape. The thug on the Kawasaki revs the motorcycle and shoots through the garage opening. He runs right into Pittsburgh Steel, destroying the bike and launching himself down the driveway.

Gravik takes on a total of 4 bikers on the 2nd floor, tossing one out the upper window and forcing 2 others into submission with increased gravity. Sebastian takes on another biker in the dining room. He disarms him and then gets him to surrender.

While checking on the biker in the driveway, Pittsburgh Steel is hit from behind by a mighty move-through by Silver Fist. Fist is looking bad, with beads of metal sweat running down his face leaving trails of black beneath. Pittsburgh Steel flash fires Silver Fist, blinding the metal man.

Sebastian checks out a hole in the floor, made by Silver Fist coming out of the basement. He drops into the hole, landing in the midst of the drug lab below. And just in time to take down another biker who gave up trying to escape through the garage.

Silver Fist tries to run away from the fight. Pittsburgh Steel grabs him and talks him into surrendering to get help for his condition.

Keith Chaney, leader of the Wolf Pack and master-mind designer of the Black Wolf drug pops out of the shadows in basement and points his gun at some of the equipment on the table. He tells Sebastian to let him go, or he’ll shoot and blow everything up. Sebastian calls his bluff and charges him. Chaney fires once before Sebastian slams into him. Chaney is defeated.

Gravik’s last foe on the 2nd floor surrenders.

After the fight, the team finds the missing super Corona. She is held captive by the gang by a Gaine’s collar and has been used as a source of super blood to be used in the Black Wolf drug.

Pittsburgh Steel accompanies Silver Fist to Faraday hospital. Sebastian and Gravic make quiet exits from the scene after giving statements to the cops.

That night, Gravik returns to the Eddington Generator in the Irish Bar. He scans the rooftop but doesn’t see anything suspicious. As he recharges, little doors open up that were hidden on the backside of the parapet and show banks of lights. They come on illuminating Gravik. Several cameras flash and take pictures of him.

Gravik decides to relax with a few drinks at the Russian bar. His friend Alexei gives him a set of keys and an envelope telling Gravik that he needs to do some work to stop the head of the Organistzaya from being upset with him for giving the Arroyo Verde address to the cops. They don’t know that it went through Pittsburgh Steel first.

He finds the car and goes and picks up an oriental, possibly Mongolian, man at a town near the border. He takes him to Arroyo Verde where more mobsters put 3 more guys in the car and send Gravik to a new location. One of the guys looks really sick. The drop off in the California desert is a ranch house. Pietri Stanovich (head of the Organistzaya in San Angelo) pays Gravik for his work and thanks him. Gravik keeps the GPS device with address of the ranch and ditches the car in San Angelo. He is out of town most of the next day, Jan 19th.

January 19th, Pittsburgh Steel returns to Starmont Estates and meets with the kids there. One 6 year old, called Dexter, shows himself to be very smart and interested in the armor. Pittsburgh Steel gives the kids souvenirs of a rebar rod bent into a PS. He then returns to the Faraday clinic to stay with Silver Fist, who is going through withdrawals and perhaps further mutations.

For the next week, Gravik checks out the rooftops more closely and finds 4 more generators rigged with lights and cameras. He can find the setup easily now that he knows what to look for, and that it’s daylight.

Pittsburgh Steel does a little more work with the bugbot and visits Silver Fist.

Sebastian checks in on Hector and finds the teen doing well in rehab. One night on patrol, Sebastian is on the Parkway north of Piper Glen, near the bridge over the Del Oro river. He hears screaming coming from under the bridge, just over a hill. 2 figures come running over the hill. Before Sebastian can give chase to either of them, an ice covered creature comes over the hill, floating on a chunk of ice. Sebastian tries to speak with the creature, but it merely attacks. The 2 fight, during which, the creature begins to melt and lose power. The battle is over quickly with the creature defeated. Sebastian finds the scene of what appears to be a “summoning” circle. There is a terrified woman there, perhaps insane now and a dead body of a man. He’s been killed by huge gashes in his chest. The gashes are ice encrusted.
Sebastian calls the cops for help. The 2 people are identified. Sebastian leaves.

January 26th
The trio are invited to meet with the chief. They are led to a hastily built conference room and teleconferenced in with the chief and people from Orion Industries. Hey give a lot of info about the drug house and what was found there. The upshot is that the chief drug dealer, Channey, may have sold his method of creating the Black Wolf drug to others. The chief also brings up the idea of Sebastian, Gravik, Pitsburgh Steel forming a super-group to be consultants for the SAPD when they need help. The group is agreeable. Also there is Twister. He strongly suggests from his experience that having identifiable costumes is helpful when doing that kind of work. Paragon sas he’ll come up with an outfit. A perfect outfit. (See “Meeting with the Chief” section for more info).

The team decides to form a group. Paragon will try to find a location central in the city for their Headquarters. They decide on a name – The Golden City Guardians.
